Time Out For A Little Body Art

Today is the very last “Time Out For Theta Mom Thursday” that I will be linking up for…because this is the last time that Heather over at Theta Mom is featuring it as a monthly meme.  She has decided that it has run its course and that it’s time for her blog to grow in another new and exciting direction, so Theta Mom Thursday is officially retiring.  I am a firm believer that the only way to grow is through change, and I cannot wait to see what great things she has in store for us next!

Last weekend, I attended my very first Henna party.  I think I’ve been to every other kind of home party on the planet at one time or another, and I actually even hosted my own spa parties for a while, but a Henna party was something I had never heard of!  The concept behind the whole thing is pretty cool.  Basically, you just get a group of friends together and have lots of yummy wine and snacks, and a Henna artist comes for an hour and a half and paints tattoos on everyone.

I am what most consider a pretty traditional girl in the sense that I don’t have any real tattoos, and my ears have only been pierced once and I actually rarely even wear earrings anymore so the holes are probably pretty close to closing up anyway.  I also do not own a belt and probably never will.  But belts seem to be the “in” thing these days for whatever reason.  Anyway, you catch my drift.  I guess I’m just not exactly what people would consider to be “hip”, (though I do think that I’m Mom Sexy as hell.  Because you don’t have to be super-trendy to be considered a MILF).

I have to admit that I’ve always wondered what it would be like to sport a little bit of ink somewhere on my body…so a Henna tattoo was the perfect solution!  It only lasts about 2-3 weeks, so I get the effect without it being permanent.  I remember being THIS CLOSE to getting my sorority letters tattooed on my ankle when I first pledged KKG.  For the record, I’m glad that I didn’t go through with it.  I don’t need a permanent reminder that I used to be able to funnel a beer without anyone holding the funnel for me. Just thinking about it from time to time is a good enough mental picture. (Oh c’mon…you were proud of your beer guzzling skills back in the day too).

For the Henna,  I chose a very simple design, the Zodiac sign for Leo, and had the artist draw it on my foot.

I think that it really suits me, and I have to admit that when I walked into my very first Hot Yoga class this past Monday night with a little ink on my foot, I felt totally zen (or something to that effect). And at least it gave me something to focus on when I was sticking my leg way in the air above my head and trying not to pay attention to the fact that my ankles were sweating.

The whole Henna experience was tons of fun, but the best part of the night had to be hanging out with my high school girlfriends. I think that remaining close friends with people from high school is pretty rare these days.  And by “close friends”, I mean that the friendship that I have with these women has grown and evolved over time.  Even though we were only teenagers when we first met, we know each other as the adults that we’ve grown into, and we love and appreciate each other for who we are NOW. Because even though it is fun to get together and reminisce about the horrid sequin dresses that we wore to our senior prom and the time that we stole a wooden statue of Petunia Pig out of someone’s yard, you simply can’t sustain a true friendship on memories alone.

The above shot is of me and my BFF from my high school years.  And you know what?  She is STILL my BFF.  She STILL makes me laugh so hard sometimes that I actually start to pee in my pants a little bit.  She STILL supports me in every single venture that I take on in my life just as she always has.  And I can STILL tell her things that I’ve never told anyone else on the face of the earth because I know that she will NEVER judge me.

And someday, she and I are going to be the sexiest bitches who ever checked into a Nursing Home.  We’ve had the whole thing planned for years.  Because when we finally get there, we’re gonna bring back Old Lady Sexy.

How great that you are still such close friends! That nursing home won’t know what hit ‘em when you guys get there!

Thinking a Henna party sounds like fun – might need to plan one.

I love my tattoo. I got it almost 11 years ago and I’ve never regretted it. I’m dying for a new one, but maybe I’ll try henna instead. Less permanent and all :)

    Shell says:

    No belts here, either! Yuck.

Love the tat. I have one and actually want another. Though I’m not sure I want that pain again. LOL

So awesome that you are still friends with your bff from high school. I am, too, though we went many years with no contact, but when we found each other again, it’s like no time had passed, friendship-wise.

    Katie says:

That sounds like a blast! I’ve always kinda wondered what it would be like to be “inked”… the thing that’s holding me back is the pain (I’m a wuss when it comes to pain). And what a coincidence: I wrote about MY best friend today, too. It must be something in the air today…..

    Jenny says:

I just love the henna tattoo..always wanted to give that a try. So nice to have a girlfriend that is a friend for life that you can tell everything….and become old sexy mom with!

I’m a non-belt, non-earings kind of girl, but I do have 4 tatoos and I’ve already planned my 5th and 6th! But I placed them on my back so I don’t have to see them if I don’t want to. :) I never really considered tatoos as a hip or trendy thing. In fact I always considered them the opposite – each tatoo is a completely different design on each person. Therefore, you’re separting yourself from every other single human being in a very unique way. But henna tattoos are a great way to try it out!

I love that you have a glass of wine in your hand in that photo! :) And the tattoo – how long does it last?

    Aging Mommy says:

Love the idea of the tattoo – I am definitely going to be working on bringing sexy back so I might just try this for myself! I think it is wonderful that you are able to get together with old schoolfriends – I’m English but live here in the US and my best friend from school lives in Australia – so we have not seen each other for almost three years, but I miss her so much!

    Jessica says:

I too still have the same BFF from not only high school, but since 3rd grade! She lives in a different city and I miss her like crazy! Not only that, I am ashamed to admit that a girlfriend and I tried to relive our beerbonging days at a new kids on the block concert last summer! For some reason, we couldnt handle it as well as we used to! Anyways, love the tatoo!

I got a henna tattoo once at an Indian wedding my hubs was in. It was awesome. I got it on both hands and got the traditional stuff. I loved it!

It sounds like you had a wonderful time with your BFF and am laughing over your description of ending up in the old folks’ home together.

    ;-)

That sounds like a great time out!!

this actually made me a little sad. I have lost one of my dear friends this year (due to petty immature bull shit) I am so glad you are able to still have those friendships…and I LOVE your fake tattoo

  13. 13
    Nikki says:

It’s so wonderful to have those kind of friends!! And I love the “tat”!!! Thats my sign too and was actually thinking of getting it on my foot!!!

    Rebecca says:

So cool. Everybody has to have a friend who makes them pee their pants! what’s worse is as we get older it isn’t going to be as hard to pee when laughing. Cracking myself up here. Anyway never went through with a tat but went with my sister to get them done. Needless to say when we left she was the only one with a tattoo. She still loves it and I’m still glad I backed out. LOL

Love the idea of a henna tattoo party. I used to get one every year at the beach (when I was a bit younger) I loved getting them on my ankle or foot…Just felt so summer-y! What a great idea!

  16. 16

Oooh that sounds fun! I love Henna tattoos. I actually have two tattoos – one blue poison dart tree frog on my right ankle and the words believe on my right inner wrist. I’m ready for my third now. What is it about tats? When I got my first one the guy told me I’d be back for another one day because you can’t get just one – sort of like the whole Ruffles potato chip thing, I guess. Anyway, I told him no way – one was enough. Now here I am wanting my third and fourth!!! I really love mine and have never regretted it at all.

Can I join you at that nursing home? I think we’d be the talk of the hallway! hahaha

I love girlfriends like that. I’m having several friends over tonight for a pedicure party. We’ve known each other (the majority coming tonight) since junior high. It’s so crazy because as much as I see them as full fledged adults…I still see them as silly little girls. It’s great!

Oh and btw, henna would totally be the way for me to go because I’m WAY too much of a commitment phobe when it comes to a real tattoo! lol

Oh, Henna tattoo! Pretty! I used to do them myself in high school during my hippie/goth phase (yes that was as crazy as it sounds). Brings back very fond memory’s, bit hazy, but fun, I think….

Love the Henna…. I’ve wanted to do that for a long time. I like the idea that it is not forever. Henna party? I am going to have to look into that. :-)

I too have been friends with my BFF for a long time… since we were in 6th grade. Kinda cool.

Check out my Buttoned up giveaway that ends tonight and my Uncommoly Cute T-shirt giveaway that ends May 10th.

    Have a great weekend.

LOVE the best friend connection. That’s just so dang cool. I’m jealous. My oldest and dearest pals are spread out across the country. We make each other pee virtually through e-mail and on the phone. I’ll be sure to stay a follower so I can join the Old Lady Sexy club!

How fun! I love the image of haveing a glass of wine while getting a cool tattoo—a henna tattoo that is. You’re so fun. SO wish we lived closer!

    Crystal says:

Oh that sounds like fun! I’ve never been to a henna party either.
I agree with you about friends from high school. It’s very rare to still be in touch with any of them. I’ve lost touch with most of my friends, just keep in touch with about 2 or 3. Kinda sad, but it’s the way life is I guess. I miss all my high school friends. It’d be fun to see them all again.
