Mom Sexy 101

Wow.  This week has totally flown by!  And I’m really glad that it has, because tomorrow morning, I am hopping on a plane BY MYSELF (one of the greatest luxuries a mother can have, if you ask me) and heading to good old Rocky Top, (a.k.a. Knoxville, TN) for a fun girls weekend with two of my best buds from college.  In case you were curious, yes, we plan on partying like rock stars and yes, we plan on laying out at the pool all day on Saturday.  And yes, I will be sporting a bikini because I’m Mom Sexy and that’s how I roll.

I thought that a great way to kick off my girls’ weekend was to give all of you a little bit of a crash course in Mom Sexy.  I was so inspired by all of the awesome tips and tricks that all of you shared with me on my Mom Sexy feature this month, and I thought that it would be a complete tragedy if I didn’t share your ideas with the rest of the blogosphere.  I’d like to say a HUGE thank you to ALL of my readers for supporting my revolution and helping me bring sexy back to motherhood!  It is with great pride that I bring you, “Mom Sexy 101″, a compilation of tips to help you rev up your inner sexy!

MOM SEXY 101

Evonne from All You Need Is Love: “Since I started this looking nice thing, I’ve been keeping up with it. Well, for the most part. This humidity is a killer for my hair so I’m still sporting the ever constant ponytail. Baby steps, right?!

Evonne talked about pulling out a new shirt from her closet that she had bought many months before but never worn.  She put it on, along with some jewelry and makeup, and painted her toenails a bright shade of red.  Sometimes putting a little more effort into how we look is all we need to take our sexy up a notch or two!

Life of Saucy B: “Whenever I’m getting ready to go out, I like to listen to my Saucy Playlist – guaranteed to make any girl feel all bom chicka wa wa!”

Be sure and check out Saucy B’s playlist and start your own dance party in your kitchen!  I’m a huge fan of that as we all know.

Angie from The Ballard Boys: “My husband, Michael, and I did something fun a couple of weekends ago that I HIGHLY recommend when you have something to celebrate and want to feel “Mom Sexy”. We booked a night out at a B&B.”

An overnight getaway with your man sans kiddos is a surefire way to turn your sexy on.  When was the last time you booked a room?  Make sure to check out the photos of the posh B&B Angie stayed at!

Niki from Ambitious Gurl: My #2 is listening to a “theme” song I pick out each week to get me going.  My theme song for this week is “Pocket full of sunshine” by Natasha Bedingfield. I love the song and it definitely gets me movin’.

I love the idea of picking a theme song each week.  Doesn’t that sound like fun?  I think for this weekend, I’m going with that Telephone song by Lady Gaga and Beyonce, since I’ll be shaking my thang in seedy college bars with my girls.  I don’t need any interruptions.

Cheryl from Special Sauce in the House: “Having three kids in five years is not kind on the body. I’ve got the old lady skin on my stomach. I’ve got cellulite (yes I do. I said it. I own it. I have it.). Crows feet. Should we even discuss which direction(s) my boobs are heading?  I’m incredibly self-critical, but just for today, I’m going to celebrate my achievements. This is something I never do. I think this is something MOST of us never do.  So today, join me, silence your inner critic, and give yourself credit. You’ve earned it. You deserve it. And besides, you look fabulous. You do!  I may not be a MILF to anyone but my husband, and I’m not back to the marathon-running shape I was in when I got pregnant, but for a 41-year old mother of three, I look pretty damn good. Pretty damn good.”

I’m giving Cheryl a standing ovation.  Applause!!

Jen from Uncommon Mom:Most important of all in my feeling sexy is staying true to myself in whatever capacity that means. Being care free and open, feeling the freedom of self confidence, that’s where I find myself most happy and most sexy. When I quit worrying about how the rest of the world sees me and am comfortable in my own skin my confidence is illuminating. At that point, feeling sexy is as natural as breathing air.”

Her statement embodies the heart of the message that I’m trying to spread with my whole Mom Sexy revolution.  I couldn’t have said it better myself!

Amber Page Writes: Dry shampoo. These days I’m lucky if I have time to toss back a cup of coffee in the morning – never mind the 30 minutes it takes me to wash, dry and style my hair. But with the help of a little of that powdery shampoo goodness, I can cut my grooming time by two-thirds.

A good flat iron. I invested in a $60 job a few months back and I have never once regretted it. Sure, my eyes might look a little crazy, but with the help of that flat iron, at least my hair can give the illusion of put-togetherness.

Amber had a whole list of sexy tips, but I singled out these two because sometimes all we need to feel like bombshells is a good hair day.  Plus I’ve always been curious about dry shampoo and now I’m not afraid to buy it.  Thanks Amber!

Dawna from Hiccups In Time: “Yes, the scale is fickle, and if I really wanted to let it get me down… it would.  I even went to depending on my tape measure, but even that is fickle if I don’t happen to get it in just the right spot – being the same spots that I got it into the time prior.  It can be down right depressing… That is, if I allowed myself to get depressed about it.  The fact of the matter is… I FEEL GREAT!  There ARE days when I’m just plain worn out, but more times than not?  I’m full of energy – at least until bedtime rolls around…  AND my clothes are getting baggy!  So, I don’t care WHAT the scale or even the tape measure say, I’m succeeding!  And THAT is what is most important… THAT is what is helping me to feel better about myself and helping me to gain my sense of Mom Sexy!”

Can I get an AMEN?  I loved her enthusiasm.  I hate the scale.  And I’m so happy that I broke up with him.

Farmer’s Wifey: “There is something I do that makes me feel wonderful. Free. Easy. Sexy.
During my day, doing my chores of housework including tidying the bedrooms, making the beds, putting clothes away, I find myself standing in front of my mirror…..with my Ipod turned on high.
I dance. And dance and dance and sing so terribly but I don’t care”.

Is anyone else noticing a dancing trend?  Bottom line: shaking your ass makes you feel sexy. Just do it.

Dina from Family Sanity Reviews: “I think its crucial to stay sexy even if its just on the inside. Regardless of life, we are still women and I don’t know about you but I like to feel like one no matter what. There are several little things I do, but the one thing that keeps my essence of sensuality is dancing, in particular belly dancing.  I think one of the best parts of belly dancing is putting on costumes, makeup, turning my short hair into long hair…and just becoming my alter-character for a moment. Stepping outside the mom-wife-homemaker role and letting my freak flag fly. Turning on the music and seeing where it takes me with no worries about the mundane activities of life.”

I have always wanted to try belly-dancing…and I think Dina inspired me to seek out a class!

The Mom Writes: “Avoid clothes that don’t fit well or are basically, too tight, too loose, too something or the other. It is better to have a few well-fitting, smartly cut outfits that flatter and make you feel good than have a wardrobe filled with clothes that you don’t enjoy wearing.”

This one is SO true!  Remember my motto: “If It Makes You Pout, Throw It Out!”

The Grasshoppa: “Well—if you are going to go all bossy on us and stuff and “make” us tell you all our sexy secrets…lets just say I have some smokin’ hot steamy sexy text message chats saved on my BlackBerry between my man and I.”

This is 2010, and “sexting” is the new phone sex.

Jennifer from The Journey Starts Write Here: “The wonderbra~seriously, this bra works miracles,if you want to look like you had a breast lift/implants, this is the way to go. If you can pull off wearing a cute tank w/ the wonderbra, you will feel just a little bit sexy.”

I can vouch for this one, ladies.  Every small-busted girl needs a porn star bra.  And I’m really small busted.

Sarah from The Stroller Ballet: “The one thing I do to feel sexy is always always wear makeup. Always! It makes me feel good even if my hair and outfit looks like s**t!”

I have to agree with Sarah on this one.  I wear makeup about 98% of the time and it always makes me feel better about myself.  Even if it’s just a tad.  Today, I only put on tinted moisturizer and mascara, but I still feel pretty!

And of course…don’t miss reading all about my June Mom Sexy Blogger of the Month, Cara Mamma from A Day in the Life. She hit the nail right on the head…sometimes all we need to feel super-sexy is a hot dress and heels.

And don’t forget to RSVP to my Mom Sexy Prom happening on June 21st, 2010!

    Love all the suggestions.

Dry shampoo has got to be my favorite thing beauty product ever.

I bought this skirt that I absolutely LOVE today at Old Navy. A forgiving waist, nice and comfy, easily worn with a simple tank top- and I can wear it out with my boys, even sit down on the ground with them b/c it’s long enough. Nice and cool. I saw it and thought- THAT’S mom sexy! :)

Loved this list. I feel the same way about makeup. My clothes may be wrinkled and my hair in a pony tail, but this chick doesn’t leave the house without makeup. Not wearing makeup gives me this “I don’t give a shit how I look” vibe, and that’s definitely NOT Mom Sexy. I didn’t get around to adding my tip the other day, but I think the biggest thing for me is strutting my stuff in a cute outfit with my hair fixed and my nails and toes done. Hubby is particular about keeping me mani/pedi’d up…claims it’s just an element of womanhood that he finds unbearably sexy [plus, you gotta love a man willing to pamper his wife. LOL]

Have a great trip!! I was thinking about your revolution here bringing mom sexy back and I got to thinking about the 1930 pin up girls who sported big bottoms. But than I got to laughing because their boobs were way to perky due to the types of bras they wore back in the days. Now even with modern push up bras the sag after breast feeding two is inevitable, LOL. Still many of those 1930 pin up gals had thick thighs and big rear-ends, and not always did they have hip bones sticking out like modern models. Still the idea of the 1930 pin up girl makes a good icon for the modern day mom sexy in my opinion. If a mom of any size can sport some thigh-highs and an apron she’s good to go = mom sexy 1930s style. Since the notion of wearing thigh-highs is an extravagant accessory for a mom, and a common sight in the 1630 pin-up posters dare I say it the apron is a true sine of domestication. I myself don’t carry on around the house with an apron on but I’m just saying, a mom of any size can go on about caring for her family and still be sexy, no matter if she’s got thick thighs and a big bottom. Totally random but I had to speak my mind here. Thanks for sharing so many other Mom Sexy entries and thoughts. Brillian!
