And The Not Mom of the Year Award Goes To…

Well everyone, it was a super-close race to the finish…but a winner has been crowned in our Not Mom of the Year contest!!

She may be completely ruining her son’s life…but at least she’s got a fancy title to show for it!!! Tina and I are proud to announce the recipient of the prestigious title of Not Mom of the Year:

You Like Me! You Really Like Me!

Well ladies and gentlemen…the votes have been tallied…and I’m more than freakin’ ecstatic to report that The Mommyologist has been selected as one of the FIVE official nominees for Nickelodeon’s ParentsConnect Best Parenting Blog for 2010!

I was completely honored to have been among the 50 bloggers who were chosen as potential nominees…and I have to be honest…I about spit my coffee all over the computer screen when I found out that I’d actually made the final five! I even logged off the ParentsConnect website and then logged back on and refreshed my browser about 10 times before it finally sunk in that this wasn’t some sort of fluke.

And I still can’t believe it. All I can say is that this is way more exciting than when I got my invite card at Sorority Rush on Bid Day during my college days. I mean, it was pretty damn cool that the Kappa Kappa Gamma (KKG) chicks liked me, but it’s WAY more awesome that my blog friends think I’m worthy of this award. Because being part of the mommy blogger world is kind of like being in a sorority. Well, minus the drunk frat dudes and obligations to buy T-shirts for every damn event under the sun, that is.

Seriously folks…I just cannot thank you enough for voting for me and supporting me for this nomination. I never would’ve gotten it without each and every one of you. And I won’t go and get all mushy on you guys, because that’s really not my style, but I will say that ALL of you totally rock my world and bring happiness into my life each and every day.

And since you put up with me begging asking for votes to make it into the top five…certainly you won’t mind if I do the same thing for this final round!

A Shameless Self-Plug

Ok everyone, please bear with me because I’m really not trying to sound like some self-promoting diva right now. I know better than to act like that and I would be completely and totally mortified if anyone thought that I was trying to toot my own horn right about now.

Now that I’ve written that disclosure, I guess I’ll just go ahead and let all of you know that I’m totally excited to be a potential nominee for Nickelodeon’s Parents Connect Parenting Blog of the Year. I actually clicked on the link to Parents Picks to go vote for one of my Bloggy Boot Camp peeps, and was shocked to find that my name was also on the list.

There were 50 bloggers nominated, and the top 5 with the most number of nominations will be the finalists for Parenting Blog of the Year. And I really don’t want to be “that girl” who is asking people to vote for me, because that can be seriously annoying, but I figured that if I’m going to have any shot in hell of being in the top 5, then I’m going to have to at least put the word out there and hope that maybe my wonderful followers will take a minute and give me a shout out. I would love to have your support…and you can vote once a day until June 17th. So, this is me officially asking for your vote if you really want to give it to me.

I was also incredibly honored to find out that I have been chosen as one of the 5 finalists for Mommy Blogger of the Year over at Project Mommyhood. When I first found out about her Mommy Blogger of the Year contest, I headed on over to nominate some of my favorite bloggers for the award. As I scrolled through the other nominations, I saw that one of the people I wanted to nominate had already been nominated SEVERAL times by other bloggers. And that didn’t surprise me one bit because she is freakin’ awesome.

Erin from The Mother Load has got to be one of the nicest, most supportive gals out there in the blogosphere. Aside from being an amazingly talented writer, she really engages her readers and interacts with us through email, Twitter, and the uplifting comments that she leaves on other blog posts. She’s one of those girls that I wish lived right next door to me. We’d totally hang out all the time if she did.

I’m pleased to report that Erin is also a finalist for Mommy Blogger of the Year at Project Mommyhood. And my vote is going to her. And I think that yours should too. She is not only an amazing blogger, but she’s an amazing mother and an amazing person. And SHE deserves this award.

Time Out…For Awards!

Well, it’s the last Thursday of the month already, and that means that it’s once again time for Time Out With Theta Mom Thursday! I really didn’t have high hopes for actually being able to get a post up today. I mean, I am still just so behind from the WordPress move and from being in Florida for a week, and then to top it all off, the cleaning lady came today so instead of dropping my son off at preschool and then rushing home to get some good blog time at the computer in like I normally do, I wound up dropping him off, and then heading over to Babies R Us (a.k.a. The “we have everything you could possibly need for a baby but trust us, you won’t be able to find one damn thing on that registry in stock” store) to pick up a gift for a baby shower I’m attending on Saturday. I know, I know…I totally waited till the last minute to get a gift. Shame on me. No wait a minute, that’s pretty typical behavior for me, so I have no shame.

Ok, back to today and back to Theta Mom Thursday! I had big plans to take my son out for lunch and a possible haircut after picking him up from preschool, but it is raining cats and dogs out there today and I really just didn’t feel like running around all over the place, so I picked him up a happy meal and we are hunkered down at home for the afternoon. And right now he is happily occupied by an episode of Caillou and his chicken nuggets and the chocolate chip cookie that I gave him as a consolation prize because the fine folks working at the McDonald’s drive-thru forgot to include the toy in his happy meal bag. And I’m hoping I can manage to get this post done before he forgets about the cookie and starts thinking about his non existent toy again.

The day may be half over, but I’m still finding time to link up for Theta Mom Thursday, and you can too! All you have to do is head over and grab her button here, and then write your own post about an hour you spent during the month without the kiddos and did something for yourself!

I am totally bending the rules today for Theta Mom Thursday, but she’s always so supportive and I know she will understand. I’m just having the worst time trying to juggle everything on my plate this week! That being said, since my kiddo is occupied right now, I’m using THIS hour as my time out, even though I know that it doesn’t officially count because he’s still in the house with me. I am just WAY overdue for posting some lovely awards given to me by my awesome blog buddies, and it is about time that I properly thanked them!

I was also more than thrilled to receive the Best Blog Award from Busy Lil’ Monkey. I am humbled that she would choose me to fit into that category in any way, shape, or form!

Lastly, my friend Shane at Calgary Daddy went one step further with the whole award thing and actually created his own award for some of us mommy bloggers who he’s gotten to know and enjoys reading! He is awesome and his new baby boy, Kyron, is just the cutest thing ever. If you haven’t visited him yet, please do today!

WHEW! I feel so much better now that I’ve acknowledged all of these wonderful bloggers and thanked them for acknowledging me. I do want to add that I was given another award from SingedWing Angel, but I could not access her profile from the comment she left me, and I googled that name and had no luck finding her blog so that I could accept my award! I tried to figure out who it was from my Google Reader too, but I can’t seem to pin her down! If she is reading this, or if anyone has her blog address, please let me know so that I can properly thank her and let her know that the award did not go unnoticed!

I know that as far as blog awards go, it is customary to pass them on to other great bloggers out there! I swore I’d never do this, but I’m going to go ahead and just offer these awards to any of my wonderful readers who would like to accept them. I don’t know that I could go through and try and single any one out this week, and I think that all of the blogs I visit are deserving of these awards, so please feel free to grab any one of them (or all of them) if you’d like!

I’d like to add that my son devoured his happy meal, and that cookie I gave him in place of his happy meal toy, and now he is devouring the little dish of M&Ms I gave him so that he’d go back into the family room and play with his pirate ship toy and let me finish this post.

I think I’ll make a mental note to take a REAL time out in March!

The Sun Finally Came Out!

Well, today is a new today, and I think that I’m finally starting to get over yesterday’s whole Hanky Panky incident. Thank you so much to everyone who left me wonderful and supportive comments after my mid-morning embarrassment! I am blessed with some truly wonderful readers and followers, that’s for sure!

After days and days of being cooped up in my house, the sun is finally shining outside, and it is shining down on my blog as well! Earlier this week, I received the lovely Sunshine Award from four wonderful new blog friends of mine.

Ella Bella Mozzarella was the first blogger to give me this award. Her blog is just too cute and she covers all of the random things that go on in the daily life of a mom, which basically encompasses all my favorite subjects! And she proudly wears her lip gloss each day while conquering motherhood. Her little girl is about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, so make sure to pop on over and see her!

Magically Ordinary gave me this award next. She is a fairly new blogger but I’m confident that she is going to be a well recognized name very soon! Her blog is adorable, and she has some really great stories with just the right amount of funny. She is also a very supportive blogger and always drops by my blog to leave me comments, something we all appreciate! She definitely brings sunshine to my day, so stop by and check her out!

Mom’s Sanity is Making a Comeback also passed this award on to me. Seriously, her blog title pretty much says it all! She is the mother of a pre-teen AND a toddler, and I love how honest she is about things that she’s gone through in her life. I am really looking forward to reading more of her posts! Don’t miss this one folks!

The Freckled Bug has become one of those blogs that I visit several times each week not only for her posts, but also to try and decide which of the to-die-for pair of flip-flops that she sells in her Etsy shop I want to order before heading to Florida in a couple weeks. I am a total flip-flop girl in warm weather, and these have some special bling going on, and I just have to have a pair. I’m thinking that I may have to go with the fleur-de-lis ones, simply because I am a Kappa Kappa Gamma alum and that is our flower! I can’t wait to order them, and after you see how awesome they are you will want a pair too!

I’m Not a Stalker, But BOY Do I Love My Blog Friends

When I started this blog back in October, I had absolutely no idea about what I was getting into. Honestly, I really didn’t have the slightest idea what I was doing. All I knew for sure was that I had so many thoughts going through my head about what really goes on in the everyday life of a Mom, and I just felt that it was necessary for me to write (or, I guess type) them all down somewhere. I thought maybe one or two moms would get a laugh out of reading my posts about poop and leaky boobs. I figured that maybe a few people would enjoy my writing and follow me. One thing that I definitely did not expect was the sense of community in the blog world, and even more so, the awesome people that I’ve met and the friendships that I’ve developed. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and even if all of my followers decided to stop reading my blog today, it would still be worth it because of the people who I never would’ve had the pleasure of getting to know if had I not started The Mommyologist. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that I’ve met these people, and I am so glad that they are in my life.

This morning when I woke up and hopped on the computer to start my daily routine of looking for new posts from all my favorite blogs, I was more than thrilled to find that my “where the hell have you been all my life” bloggy friend, Shell, had given me the Circle of Friends Award. I cannot even believe how much I have in common with this girl, and even though we have never met in person (we are in March though…and I can’t wait!), I feel like I’ve known her forever. For me, reading her blog is like hanging out with an old friend, someone who truly “gets” me. There are plenty of people who I know in the real world who have never truly “gotten” me, but this chick does for sure. She understands why the other preschool moms drive me nuts (a.k.a. the motherbitches, but that’s Shell’s word, so don’t even attempt to make it your own. I’m sure she won’t mind me borrowing it for the sake of this post though). She understands that I have an edge and pretty much say whatever is on my mind even if I think that certain people (yes, the motherbitches again) won’t agree with it. I’m also pretty sure that she could throw one hell of a dance party, and I’m hoping to attend one someday in the future. If you aren’t one of her followers yet, then I’m going to assume it’s because you have never visited her blog. Because if it’s for any reason other than that, then I may just have to put you into the motherbitch category. Ok, I’m kidding. Wait a minute, no I’m not. In case there was any question on your part of what constitutes being labeled a motherbitch, head on over to Things I Can’t Say to find out!

Since I received this award from Shell, I think that it is only fitting to pass it on to my other bloggy friend with the same name yet different spelling, Chelle at The Winey Mommy. Chelle is another girl who I would love to sit down with on a Friday night and open a bottle of wine and have a good old-fashioned night in, complete with a whole lot of girl talk and tons of laughter! She is a mommy of two adorable girls, and a total sweetheart. I’m sure that everyone around her feels lucky to know her. I know I do! She has been so supportive of me and my blog and has never hesitated to help me out when I’ve had a question as a new blogger. I really appreciate her taking the time to help out someone she’s never met! I don’t forget things like that. I love her latest post, so that is the one I’m linking this to. For the record Chelle, if you ever do have a mom sleepover, I hope that I make the guest list!! (I’ll even bring the wine)!

2010 Sure Makes me Happy…and I’m Sharing the Love!

Happy New Year everyone! I don’t know about you, but I am SO ready for a fresh start this January 1st. I don’t know what it is, but I just have one of those “this is gonna be a great year” feelings in my gut as we kick off 2010. My gut feelings have typically turned out to be spot on in the past, even when these hunches have been on the negative side of the spectrum, so I’m hoping that the trend continues and that this year is going to totally rock my world.

I was so delighted when I woke this morning (at almost 10:00am after my wonderful hubby let me sleep in on this New Year’s Day) and found that I had received an award from another fellow blogger. I don’t know about you, but I just get a little giddy when somebody passes one of these awards on to me. It makes me feel special and lets me know that people out there are actually reading my blog…and maybe enjoying it a little too! This award couldn’t have come at a better time because earlier this week, I received my first dose of negative feedback about my blog and my integrity was questioned. I’m resolving to just take a deep breath and move on and try not to let the criticism bring me down. I’m going to use it as a learning experience because, as a writer, I’m bound to encounter more people in the future who don’t particularly agree with some of the things I’ve got to say. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And just in case there is a small chance that the person who gave me the negative feedback is reading this, hear me loud and clear on this one. “I’m over it. And I’m not upset anymore. Friends can agree to disagree.”

Ok, back to my wonderful award! I am a proud recipient of the “Happy 101″ award. It was given to me by Jenny from Southern Institute for Domestic Arts and Crafts. I recently discovered her blog and she is a mom like me and there is just nothing I love more than reading other mom blogs, so of course I started following her. The thing that I really love about this award is that when you receive it, you are supposed to list 10 things that make you happy. What a great way to start off the new year on a positive note! Here it goes…

10 Things that TRULY make me happy:

1. My little boy. Honestly, do I really have to say anything more about this one? Any mom will understand that there is just nothing on the face of this earth that is better than the love between you and your child. Just look at how cute this little guy is! I can’t resist. He is my world. My heart. My soul. My proof that I’ve done at least one good thing in my life. He is my everything.

2. The fact that my husband is not only an incredible father, hubby, and friend, but also an amazing cook. I am a decent cook, but I’m a basic cook. I make your standard meat and potatoes and spaghetti and things like that. The Hubster gets creative and makes things that I can’t pronounce. And they are absolutely delicious. Here is a shot of the New Year’s Eve dinner he made for us last night. I can only take credit for the potatoes. He did the chateaubriand filets, and crab cakes with homemade chipotle aioli. And he cleaned up the kitchen too. And I was very happy this New Year’s Eve.

3. My parents make me happy. They have stood by me through thick and thin and we’ve always had an amazing and special relationship. I honestly don’t think I could ask for better parents than these two. They love me unconditionally, and they sure do love my son. I am their only child, and he is their only grandchild, and we’ve all had to endure some pretty tough times over the past few years, but we survived. And we are all just so happy for the fun times that we have together now, and the ones that we have to look forward to in the future.

4. I’m on a roll here with the whole sentimental thing, so I can’t leave out my friends. My friends make me SO happy. And I’m talking about my real friends on this one. The people who I can call at 3:00 in the morning because I’m up with a crying baby and have nowhere else to turn. The people who will truthfully tell me that my jeans make my butt look big and suggest another pair, and at the same time they will rip the designer of those jeans that make my butt look big to shreds and declare that everyone’s butt looks big in that particular brand of jeans. These girls also make me happy because I know that under no circumstance am I required to clean my house before they come over.

5. Since we’ve just ended the holiday season, I have to say that checking my mailbox for Christmas cards each day makes me happy. I just love getting photo cards of all of my friends and family’s kids in the mail each year. It is fun to see how everyone changes from year to year. I’ve been talking about it for a while now, so tomorrow I’m finally going to go out and buy a scrapbook to put each year’s cards in so that I can always look back at them when I want a guaranteed smile session. These cards are the perfect reminder of what is important in life, and also just how quickly our lives go by.

6. You know what? I’m not gonna lie. I get really happy about a good meal…as you could probably tell from #2! I love to eat. I love food. And I get really excited when I know that I’m about to indulge in something especially yummy. And it makes me happy that I’m not going to beat myself up about enjoying those tasty treats this year. Everything in moderation, right?

7. I’ve recently realized just how much starting traditions with my little family makes me. I love that my husband and son and I go to the Christmas tree farm every year in order to get the perfect Christmas card photo. I love that we freeze our butts off stomping around in the snow looking for the perfect tree. I love that we come home and decorate the tree and that the bottom half of it looks completely disheveled because that is where my son puts all of his unbreakable red and green ball ornaments. And I love our new tradition of turning all the lights out as soon as it gets dark on Christmas Eve (around 4:30pm in Connecticut) and sitting on the couch as a family watching The Polar Express. Just thinking about how great this Christmas was makes me incredibly happy.

8. Ok, I’m sure that you all saw this one coming. I get really happy about cocktail hour. This girl loves her Crystal Light martinis and her wine. I drink according to temperature, and for whatever reason, in the summer I like a refreshing martini and in the winter I like to curl up on the couch with a blanket and a nice glass of vino. Don’t take it the wrong way, but my booze most definitely makes me happy.

9. Being near the water makes me happy. We started a new tradition last summer of vacationing in Cape Cod for a week each July and I just can’t wait to go back this year. Something about the ocean is therapeutic. And I’ve never seen a more picturesque place than Chatham, MA. It is the quintessential New England coastal town…and it makes me happy to be there with my boys. Eat your heart out Norman Rockwell!

10. Writing this blog makes me happy. As I said in my New Year’s Resolutions, blogging has filled a void for me that I never really knew I had. For the first time in my life, I finally feel like I’m right where I’m supposed to be…doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing. I love to write, and I love being a mom. And I love that I’m able to do both of them each and every day. And I’m the happiest I’ve been in a long time.

Well, there you have it! That’s my happiness list. This post wasn’t exactly as humorous as some of the ones that I normally write, but I just felt that it deserved to be a little more meaningful. I believe that happiness is an incredible gift and I just had to do justice to it.
